Fractal Boston
Fractal Values and Guidelines
What we are
Fractal is a social community. We host events like coworking, dinners, bar nights, walks, and classes.
The community is centered around the Camberville area.
Who it’s for
Fractal exists for people who wish to:
- Do life surrounded by friends
- Build and maintain strong relationships
- Learn from each other
- Contribute back to the community
What a good Fractalite looks like
A good Fractal member is social. They are curious about other people and eager to share themselves. They push themselves to be a bit more vulnerable and honest than usual.
A good member continually contributes back. The community is better because they’re in it. When they attend events, they look for ways to help. When they are more comfortable, they host their own events and invite the community. If they’ve been part of Fractal for several months and can’t point to ways they’ve improved the community, they should change that.
A good member enhances the vibe. Events are more fun, dynamic, or interesting because they’re there.
How to join
You become a Fractal member by attending events and contributing back. Just find some events on our shared calendar and start showing up.
There is no official moment when you move from non-member to member, it’s a mentality. If you think you’re a member, you are.

Who’s in charge?
Fractal operates in a fairly distributed fashion.
In general, the person hosting an event is in charge. They make the rules and control the guest list. A host need not invite nor accept all members at their event.
For issues that affect the community more broadly, our founders Grin and Ben make the final call (with input from community veterans).
Do-ocracy
Fractal is a do-ocracy. If you want something to exist, just make it!
In general, you do not need permission to host a gathering, start a project, invite people, or try something new. Use good judgment, take responsibility for the thing you create, and make it better as you learn.
If you find yourself thinking "Fractal should really do X", that is probably your invitation to act.
How to host an event
Go to a few Fractal events so you get a sense of the vibe. Then, just make an event on Luma or Partiful.
If you’d like to invite the community broadly, you can post your event on our shared calendar. This is optional, though! As host, you can host an event for a limited subset of the community (this happens all the time).
