Fractal Boston
New Member Guide
What is Fractal Boston?
Fractal Boston is a community of curious, kind, and intentional people who enjoy gathering regularly, learning from each other, and living a meaningful life surrounded by friends.
The community brings together people across fields and niche interests — technology, academics, science, meditation, and more — to explore ideas and support each other’s pursuits and personal lives.
Fractal Boston is inspired by the earlier community Fractal NYC, which started as a small group of friends hosting dinners and talks and grew into a large network of coworking, classes, and events.
How the community works
Fractal is decentralized. There’s no single organizer running everything. Anyone in the community can host events, teach classes, start a project, or invite others to participate.
Fractal works best when people:
- share what they’re excited about
- teach what they know
- support others’ projects
- take initiative
- welcome new people
Things we do together
Common activities include:
Monthly dinners
Large gatherings (typically 30–40 attendees) where members share food, catch up, and give short lightning talks about things they’re learning or working on.
Coworking
Weekly coworking sessions are hosted in Porter Square where people work on projects (personal or professional) and may help each other with brainstorming or feedback while enjoying warm and supportive company.
Fractal Boston University
A member-directed learning program organized across three “semesters” throughout the year where members teach short classes about topics they’re passionate about. Past classes have covered an eclectic range of topics including local government, agentic engineering, Christian mysticism, jazz music, portrait drawing, and yoga.
Other gatherings
Members frequently organize community gatherings around their own desires and interests. Examples include:
- Dinners and potlucks
- Craft nights
- Indoor rock climbing
- Movie nights
- Outings around the city
How to get involved
The easiest way to become part of the community is simply to show up.
Start by subscribing to the Fractal Boston email newsletter and Luma calendar. Attend a few different types of Fractal Boston events, join in on the conversation, and when you’re ready, consider hosting your own event.
Fractal Boston grows through the people who show up and contribute. We welcome ideas and initiative while bringing curiosity and kindness to everything we do.
Everyone has the ability to shape what this community becomes. If you have an idea, try it, and if something is missing, join us and help bring it to life.
