Fractal Boston

Event Hosting Guide

Why host?

Fractal Boston is decentralized by design. There’s no single person running the show. The community lives and grows through whoever shows up and takes initiative.

When you host an event, you’re creating a moment for people to connect, discover new or shared interests, and feel a deeper sense of belonging.

Hosting is also one of the best things you can do for yourself within the community. It’s a chance to:

  • Become a more visible, connected part of Fractal Boston
  • Get to know people more deeply than you would just by attending
  • Share a topic or activity you love with a genuinely curious audience
  • Help shape the community around the things you find meaningful

What can you host?

Practically anything. Members have previously organized:

  • A clothing swap at someone’s apartment
  • A rock climbing night at a local gym
  • A movie night with popcorn and discussion
  • A craft night to work on creative projects together
  • A day trip to explore another New England town

You also don’t have to plan something from scratch. Sometimes the simplest thing is inviting people to join something that’s already happening: a lecture, a comedy show, an exhibit.

If it sounds like something you’d want to attend, there’s a good chance others will too.

How to make it happen

Pick an idea you’re genuinely excited about. It doesn’t have to be polished or elaborate. Start with what truly interests you and go from there.

Choose a date, time, and place. Your living room, a local coffee shop, a park, a community space. Wherever fits the nature of what you’re planning.

Add it to the Fractal Boston Luma calendar. Luma is our most popular place to discover and share events. Head to our calendar page and click “Submit Event” to add your own.

Spread the word. Events posted to Luma are automatically shared with members on Discord and in our email digest. Don’t let the invitations stop there. Personally invite people inside and outside of Fractal Boston who you’d love to see.

Bring the event to life. Hosting is one of the most rewarding things you can do in this community. Hosting takes real effort, but it doesn’t have to be perfect to be memorable. During the event, be sure to take a moment to appreciate the connection and community you’ve helped to create.

You don’t have to do it alone

Handling logistics, preparing in advance, welcoming people, and making sure no one is left out can feel like a lot. You don’t have to do it all on your own.

Co-hosting is always an option. Reach out to someone else in the community, split the logistics, and make it a shared project. With the right co-hosts, planning the event together can be just as fun and rewarding as the event itself.

Let’s create Fractal Boston together

The best version of Fractal Boston is the one its members are actively building together.

Whatever you’re curious about, passionate about, or just in the mood for, there’s likely someone here who feels the same way.

Some of the most memorable moments started with one person who had a simple idea and decided to go for it. Your idea could be next.
